Heavy Rain, High Waves, and Landslide Alerts in Maharashtra: INCOIS and IMD Issue Warnings

Maharashtra Rain Alert: INCOIS and IMD issue high wave and rainfall warnings for Konkan, Kolhapur, and Pune-Satara Ghats; landslide fears grow in hilly regions.

In the wake of intense monsoon activity, the Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) have issued multiple warnings for Maharashtra’s Konkan coast and western hilly regions. The alerts cover potential high sea waves, heavy rainfall, and landslides, prompting authorities and citizens to remain vigilant.

🌊 High Sea Wave Warning for Konkan

INCOIS has forecasted high sea waves ranging from 3.4 to 3.8 meters along the Konkan coastline, especially near Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. The warning is in effect from 5:30 AM on June 27 until 11:30 AM on June 29, 2025. Fishermen and small boat operators have been strictly advised to avoid venturing into the sea during this period.

🌧️ Rainfall Warnings and Recorded Precipitation

The IMD has placed the Pune-Satara Ghats region under an Orange Alert due to anticipated heavy rainfall. Over the past 24 hours, several districts have already recorded significant rain:

  • Sindhudurg: 19 mm
  • Palghar: 16.1 mm
  • Ratnagiri and Kolhapur: 15.2 mm
  • Raigad: 11.9 mm

⛰️ Landslide Concerns in Kolhapur’s Hilly Areas

In Kolhapur’s Bhudargad taluka, residents of Faye village have reported developing cracks on a nearby hillside, prompting evacuation warnings. Similarly, on the Gargoti–Patgaon road near Chopadevadi (Prijima 52 km point), significant land fissures have appeared, raising fears of landslides. Authorities have shut down this stretch, diverting traffic through alternate routes like Gargoti–Akkurde–Kardwadi–Kadgaon–Mamdapoor on State Highway 179.

🚨 Tragic Incidents Across the State

The ongoing rainfall has led to multiple unfortunate events across Maharashtra:

  • Palghar: Three people drowned.
  • Yavatmal: One person lost their life due to drowning.
  • Sindhudurg: A fatal fall into a gorge was reported.
  • Nagpur: Road accidents killed nine animals and injured 16.
  • Dhule: One animal died due to lightning.
