🌍 International Yoga Day 2025: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health” Celebrated Across India and the World

New Delhi – As the sun rose over India and across the globe, millions joined hands—virtually and physically—to celebrate the 11th International Yoga Day under the unifying theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” The day was marked by a massive display of unity, wellness, and environmental consciousness.

🇮🇳 Mega Celebrations in Vizag

In a spectacular show of mass participation, Visakhapatnam (Vizag) became the epicenter of this year’s celebrations. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister presided over the arrangements for a grand event at RK Beach, where over 5 lakh (500,000) people gathered for an early morning yoga session. The event also aimed to set a Guinness World Record, making it one of the largest yoga gatherings ever held.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his video address, emphasized the importance of yoga in personal well-being and global harmony, reiterating the idea that “Yoga connects body, mind, and the planet.”

🧘‍♂️ State-Wide and Local Programs

Across Indian cities, from Lucknow to Ranchi, yoga enthusiasts of all ages came out in large numbers. Historic sites such as Rumi Darwaza in Lucknow hosted synchronized yoga sessions, while over 9 lakh (900,000) students and teachers across Jharkhand took part in week-long Surya Namaskar events.

In Nagpur, the TOI Yogathon gathered hundreds at the Chitnavis Centre, blending tradition with community wellness. Meanwhile, Shillong schools saw active participation by students and NCC cadets, with awareness campaigns focusing on yoga and sustainable living.

🌐 Global Participation

From New York to Nairobi, embassies, yoga studios, and Indian diaspora communities marked the day with diverse cultural programs and asana workshops. The United Nations, which declared June 21 as International Yoga Day in 2014, highlighted this year’s theme as a “global call to action for wellness and ecological balance.”

🌿 Health Meets Sustainability

This year’s focus—”One Earth, One Health”—bridges yoga’s traditional emphasis on internal balance with modern concerns about climate change, pollution, and mental stress. Many sessions across the country were held in eco-sensitive zones, emphasizing minimal plastic use and organic living.

Popular yoga asanas practiced today included Tadasana, Shalabhasana, Bhujangasana, and Vrikshasana, with guided breathing exercises such as Anulom Vilom and Bhramari Pranayama.
