📰 Bihar Monsoon 2025: Rain Likely to Hit State Around June 17, Relief from Heatwave Expected

Patna, June 17, 2025 – After weeks of intense summer heat, the much-awaited monsoon is set to arrive in Bihar around June 17, bringing relief to millions suffering under extreme temperatures. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is advancing steadily and is expected to cover Bihar within the next few days.

☁️ Monsoon to Arrive Slightly Late

Traditionally, the monsoon arrives in Bihar between June 10 and June 15. However, this year’s onset has been slightly delayed due to weak initial conditions in the Bay of Bengal. As of June 16, monsoon currents have reached Jharkhand and parts of West Bengal and are now advancing towards Bihar.

🌧️ Forecast: Light to Moderate Rainfall with Thunderstorms

The IMD has predicted light to moderate rainfall across several districts including Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, and Darbhanga starting June 17. In some places, isolated heavy showers and thunderstorms may occur, especially during the afternoons and evenings.

> “The monsoon is expected to become more active after June 18, with increased rainfall activity across north and central Bihar,” said an IMD Patna official.

🔥 Relief from Scorching Heat

For the past few weeks, temperatures in many parts of Bihar have remained above 40°C. Cities like Gaya and Aurangabad recorded highs of 43–44°C. The incoming monsoon rains are expected to break this heatwave, bringing much-needed comfort to residents.

🌾 Farmers Ready for Kharif Season

The arrival of the monsoon also marks the beginning of the kharif crop season. Farmers across Bihar are preparing to sow paddy, maize, and pulses.

> “We’ve been waiting for the rains to begin rice transplantation. Timely monsoon is crucial for our crops,” said Ramesh Yadav, a farmer from Nalanda district.

The IMD’s seasonal outlook has forecast above-normal rainfall in Bihar this June, raising hopes of a good agricultural season.

⚠️ Authorities Urged to Prepare for Flood Risk

While the rains bring relief, officials have warned about the risk of localized flooding, especially in low-lying and river-adjacent areas. District administrations have been asked to prepare for emergency response, including drainage maintenance and early flood warnings.
